A one volume history of the Carmelite Order by Fr. Joachim Smet, the Order's premier historian. The present work is a compilation of Fr. Smet's 5 volume history-- which has been referred to as "the road map for future historical scholarship on the Carmelites." This volume includes a detailed index to assist researchers. The title recalls a classic work in the historiography of the Carmelite Order, the Speculum carmelitanum which was published in 1686.
